Test apps in Bob Marketplace
See your Developer Portal apps in Bob for company-scoped testing in Dev mode
Partner OAuth integrations only
This guide is for approved HiBob Marketplace partners with Developer Portal access. Dev mode apps appear only on your partner Bob company. Customer companies see your app in Marketplace only after it is published.
When you create an app in the Developer Portal, Bob mirrors it into your test company's Bob Marketplace so you can test how the app looks and installs before you publish. Use this flow to validate the listing and install experience on your partner Bob company without making the app available to other companies.
Use it to:
- See every app from your Developer Portal reflected in Bob
- Review how incomplete listing details appear to users (stubs and Uncategorized)
- Install and test from Bob Marketplace as a customer would
- Keep testing scoped to your partner Bob company until go-live
Before you begin
You work in two places:
- Developer Portal (developers.hibob.com): create and configure the app (OAuth, scopes, listing, Development credentials).
- Bob (app.hibob.com): open Marketplace to see and install the app in Dev mode on your partner company only.
Notes:
- You need a partner Bob company and Developer Portal access. See Initial setup in the Quick start guide.
- Create the app in the Developer Portal first. Bob does not create Dev mode apps on its own.
- You do not need a complete Marketplace listing to start testing. Missing required listing fields are shown with stubs so the tile still appears. If you have not set a category, Bob places the app under Uncategorized.
- Other companies cannot see Dev mode apps until the app is published. See Schedule deployment and go live.
Create or update the app in the Developer Portal
- Open the Developer Portal.
- From My apps, click Create app, or select an existing app.
- Fill in Basic information, OAuth settings, scopes, and listing details as you build.
- Click Save.
Bob updates the Dev mode tile on your partner company to match what you saved in the Developer Portal.
To learn more about creating the app and Development credentials, see the Quick start guide.
Find your apps in Bob (In development)
- From the top left in Bob, click Bob products > Marketplace.
- From the top-right, click Manage apps.
- Select the In development tab.
The In development tab lists every app from your Developer Portal for this Bob company. Each tile shows a Dev mode badge.
Notes:
- Installed apps and In development are separate tabs. Use In development for apps that are not yet published.
- The list is a reflection of My apps in the Developer Portal for your partner Bob company.
Install an app for testing
Both the Developer Portal and Bob Marketplace can start an install. Choose the entry point based on what you want to validate.
Install from the Developer Portal
Use this path when you mainly need to verify the Bob-side OAuth experience (consent screen, redirect, scopes, and mode=dev).
- In the Developer Portal, open your app.
- From OAuth, scroll to Test your app installation.
- Click Test from Bob Marketplace > Install.
- Complete the consent screen in Bob and confirm the redirect to your redirect URI.
Install from Bob Marketplace
Use this path when you want the full user journey in Bob—how the app appears (Dev mode, category, stubs) and how users install it from Marketplace.
- From the top left in Bob, click Bob products > Marketplace.
- Click Manage apps.
- Select the In development tab.
- Select the app tile.
- Click Install and complete the consent flow.
For OAuth protocol details (consent, tokens, scopes), see OAuth 2.0. For multi-tenant install handling on your side, see Managing customer installations.
What happens after you publish
Until your app is approved and published:
- Your partner Bob company — apps appear under Manage apps → In development and can be installed for testing with Development credentials.
- Customer companies — the app is not available in their Marketplace.
After go-live with Production credentials, customers install from the public Marketplace listing. See Schedule deployment and go live.
FAQs
Where do I configure the app, and where do I test how it looks in Marketplace?
Configure the app in the Developer Portal. Test listing and install in Bob under Marketplace → Manage apps → In development.
Why don’t other companies see my app yet?
Dev mode apps are visible only on your partner Bob company. Customer companies see the app only after it is published.
Why is my app under Uncategorized?
You have not set a category in the Developer Portal yet. Bob uses Uncategorized so the tile still appears while you finish listing details.
Why does the tile show placeholder content?
Required listing fields that are not yet filled are shown as stubs, so you can still open and install the app for testing.
When should I install from the Developer Portal vs from Bob Marketplace?
Install from the Developer Portal when you mainly need to verify Bob OAuth consent and redirect. Install from Bob Marketplace (Manage apps → In development) when you want the full Marketplace user journey.
How is this different from the Installed apps tab?
Installed apps shows apps already installed or connected for the company. In development shows your unpublished Developer Portal apps in Dev mode for testing on your partner company.
